Project characteristics
Almere City Council has commissioned Martens en Van Oord to supply 300,000m3 of sand for the purposes of making the Duin housing development site in Almere ready for construction. This sand will be delivered and unloaded by ship on the IJmeerdijk. An unloading pontoon with an hydraulic excavator, two conveyor belts and two bulk hoppers will be used for the unloading work. The bulk hopper will be used to load the lorries, which will then carry the sand on to two different depots.
Safe transport
In order to ensure that the transportation is effected as safely as possible and with minimal nuisance caused, our lorries will refrain from driving on public roads, instead using a route not accessible to other traffic. A conveyor belt will be used to transport the sand over a road that is being used by other traffic. This conveyor will be fitted with an anti-spill screen to prevent sand from ending up on the public road or cycle path.
Duin Plan
Duin will eventually feature dunes up to 10 metres high, alternating with forest, creeks and a dune valley. Unsurprisingly, special requirements have been set for the sand, which will have the structure of sea sand to enable such species as marram grass to grow on it.
Planning
At the end of December 2018 we have started delivering and building our equipment and setting up the worksite.
Mid January 2019 the first sand will be unloaded and the lorry transportation will begin. The work is expected to be completed in May 2019.
