BEVEROORD
The Beveroord pontoon is equipped as an approach pontoon. This means that the pontoon’s equipment includes a diving container, jet and suction pumps, an explosives container and an excavator.
Specialised divers enter the water from the pontoon and approach relatively large metal objects that were localised earlier by a detection vessel. ‘Approach’ means that, while underwater and without touching the object, the divers determine whether it dates back to World War II and, if so, whether it may be touched/moved.
If it can be moved safely or if it is not an object from World War II, it is brought up by the divers with the aid of the excavator. This allows us to remove large metal objects from the entire section to be dredged. The smaller objects remain behind, but that is not an issue because we use the Roeroord pontoon for secured dredging in the same location.
